Seldem Kargı
Aklımın Dörtnalı

Deep within our minds lies a primitive existence. Despite living upright on two feet, the unrest in our psyche hearkens back to a pre-evolutionary state. We constantly strive to suppress, ignore, or flee from the emotions we dislike—those that linger most persistently, such as anger, anxiety, shyness, and jealousy. We often try to distance ourselves from these feelings, yet expecting constant happiness from what we encounter is unrealistic. A disturbing thought or idea can open the doors of our minds, triggering an involuntary process of self-reflection.
In her paintings, Seldem Kargı seeks to evoke a sense of sadness and discomfort, inviting viewers to find themselves in their moments of pain. The concept of “Aklımın Dörtnalı” revolves around the idea of escaping from oneself only to inevitably return. Her depictions of four-legged, two-headed figures, intertwined limbs, and tears reflect characters that share a common source of suffering. The artist envisions a simplicity that allows us to glimpse our inner selves when looking outward.
By capturing the untainted essence of a pure idea on canvas, Kargı attempts to keep pace with the galloping thoughts in her mind. She substitutes words with colors and letters with shapes, running a marathon where her legs never tire.
