The End Is Also The Beginning

November 1 - December 1, 2012

“From my rotting body flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity.” Edvard Munch

An understanding that everything ends, that our time (at least on earth) is finite, is one of the cornerstones of our existence; it is something we are always vaguely conscious of, whether we like it or not. It makes us aware of the “span” of things, it makes us conscious of time. The artists in this exhibition address this basic understanding of human existence in their work and the always relevant “big picture”: birth, journey, death, renewal.

Images of endurance, flight, paths to no-where, brick walls and lists of names are but some of the symbology and subjects examined in “The End is Also the Beginning” — as is the precarious balance of hope and hopelessness. This exhibition connects to the current sense of despair, chaos and alienation that is globally pervasive, but also suggests that beauty, hope and possibility can co-exist with the afore-mentioned drama.
