Sinan Tuncay’s debut solo exhibition in Istanbul, «Synthetic», brings his recent photography and video projects together. Consisting of several bodies of work, the show is an ensemble of meticulous collages, made of both taken and found images, that aim to explore gender discourse through a melancholic Turkish nostalgia.
Tuncay’s overall work, that highly inspired by miniature painting, challenges the single point perspective to create photographic hierarchies that oscillate between two and three dimensions. Projecting gigantic to miniature; public to private; his imagery is an open invitation to experience the contradictions of gender, that is fabricated by both modernity and religious conservatism.
