‘Nakedness reveals itself. Nudity is placed on display. The nude is condemned to never being naked. Nudity is a form of dress.’ John Berger, Ways of Seeing

In September C.A.M. Gallery will bring together the works of Dieter Mammel, Eyhan Çelik, Gülfem Kessler, Nihal Martlı, Pelda Aytaş and Öykü Önal with the exhibition ‘Nude/ Covered’.

The exhibition deals with the notions of ‘Nude/ Covered’ over identity, culture, history and personal mythologies and interpretations of the participating artist forms the frame of the exhibition.

The nude, as a form of plastic art is an enduring tradition in Art History; likewise the naked human body was one of the first topics of the prehistoric art. The evolution of clothing also a historical process all on its own.

Also dealing with centuries of charm towards the naked body, the exhibition explores the liaison between an honest, natural and personal artistic expression and the context of ‘nude/ covered’ as an idealized form.

Reflecting different understandings, over contemporary social norms varying widely regarding body and sexuality, the exhibition approaches to the concept ‘nude/ veiled’ not only physical sense also semantically and introspectively.
