Inner Monologues
March 5 - March 28, 2015
Yesim Sahin’s solo show “Inner Monologues” is about the artist questioning her identity initiated by the journeys taken in her childhood between Germany and Turkey, which led to an exploration of herself in the following years through a cultural and intellectual based search of existence. The dilemmas between the two languages and cultures influence the formation of the works in the show.
Through the figures, there is a possible communication formed between the inner monologues and the actual reactions against the pressures and restrictions formed by the family/society since the childhood. Thus, the works can be interpreted as a salvation of the artist.
The artist, concentrating on personal and social relations in her works, has begun to focus on ready-mades after 2004. Sahin poses one reality against another and chooses to develop a duality through her works.
The solo exhibition will show pieces produced between the years 2013 – 2015. Yesim Sahin’s “Inner Monologues” can be viewed at C.A.M. Gallery between the dates 5-28 March.
