Imagine
September 15 - October 12, 2011
C.A.M Gallery Akaretler begins the Fall 2011 season with “Imagine”, taking place simultaneously with the 12th Istanbul Biennial. The show, which runs from September15 to October 09 2011, includes the works of Ceyda Aldemir, Burcu Yağcıoğlu, Matt Lifson, Nihal Martli, Sinasi Bozalti, and Yasemin Kackar Demirel. In a world of political and social unrest, concurrent wars, unimaginable natural disasters and a devouring Capitalist system, to imagine is to hope, to place faith in optimism. “Imagine” is a show about the inventions of different worlds by the partcipating artists. From the hallucinatory landscapes of Matt Lifson, to the altered reality of Demirel, these artist skew what is familiar.
When John Lennon wrote (in 1971), “You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one; I hope someday you’ll join us…” the implication was of a utopia that we still long for. The world of “utopia” — a “never-never” land is a place frequently visited by artists and a psychological window to a unique world. C.A.M Gallery cordially invites you to explore these places and the realities presented by the participating artists. Oscar Wilde once said “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars”. These are the ones who keep looking at the stars. Imagine.
